$50 Tree Planting Grants Now Available for Oregon Teachers

In 2008, Oregon Arbor Week is April 6-12.

To kick off Oregon’s annual Arbor Week celebrations and to support community tree planting with Oregon school children in the month of April, the Oregon Association of Nurseries, Oregon Department of Forestry in cooperation with USDA Forest Service, Oregon Community Trees and the World Forestry Center have teamed up for the first time to offer $50 grants for Oregon teachers to purchase and plant trees on their school grounds and in local communities.

  • Teachers of all grades in Oregon are eligible to apply.
  • The $50 grant is to purchase tree(s) from a local nursery or garden center.
  • The grant may be used to leverage other donations for the project, but must apply only and directly toward purchase of tree(s).
  • All projects must involve students in the planning (selecting site, choosing type of trees) and planting the trees.
  • Trees must be planted on school grounds or nearby site with public access.
  • All trees must be successfully planted by April 30, 2008.
  • To receive payment, teachers must submit a copy of receipt for purchase of tree(s) and a digital photograph of the planted tree with students.
  • Only one grant will be awarded per school.
